Instant Reaction

Wayzata continues to confound us.  Largest school in the state, crushes soccer and volleyball…feels like they should be bigger and better…but maybe they are exactly what they should be.

In the games we were able to watch, their D1 commit (Katie Sikorski) was pretty ball dominant, to the point where we wonder how that affected the overall production.

The Future

(7) 2025s on the Varsity roster last year, led by Ainsley Owens and Evie Marks.  Owens looks to be the natural replacement to Sikorski…but how does the production get supported beyond that?

Stat Crusade

In our crusade on assist percentage…Wayzata assisted 45/145 goals scored…31.0%.  Pretty low. This honestly tracks with our observations from the games we watched.

For the record the past teams were 59.1%, 50.1%, 34.8%, 67.4%, 58.7%, 55.7%, 33.3%, 38.2%, 44.5%, 50.7%, 57.9%, 31.5%, 24.8%, 52.1, 48.8%, 48.5%, and 31.0%.

2024 Schedule?

11/13 games in the books, made up of Buffalo, Champlin Park, EP, Blake, Minnetonka, Edina, Eden Prairie, Woodbury, Maple Grove, Hopkins, and STMA.  I think we stumbled on to one reason why they confounding to us…they set up a very stern schedule…good on them…but if you want to be a good team, you have to beat good teams.

Maybe after Blake has our dream match up with Moorhead (Bentley vs F150), we can promote the Bentley vs Porsche for the Blake/Wayzata match up.  If Wayzata adds Orono, we’ll have Porsche vs Lamborghini… and yeah…their Edina match up will be named the Porsche vs Bakery Truck Showdown.

Its a little bit curious to only have 11 games scheduled right now. At this point, teams are starting to release their schedule graphics…and the Trojans still have 2 games to get into rSchool schedules. Maybe its all negotiated and just needs to be entered.

Interesting Nugget No One is Talking About

Shout out to their 2024 goalie, Delany Gnos.  8.42/52.6% against mostly all capable competition, with it not being totally clear who or how their defense behaved.  Seems like a great rock for the Trojans in 2024.

In Conclusion

Man.  Section 5 is full of legit teams.  Even the bottom half of the section are plucky.  Keeping this from turning into a section 5 preview, Wayzata has all the resources, but is there a lot of room for their record and ranking to improve?
