What Happened Last Year
Well. The 4 big hitters in the section all got to the semifinals and then we had 3, 3 goal games:
Semifinal 1: #1 Eden Prairie 11 over #4 Chanhassen 8
Semifinal 2: #2 Minnetonka 19 over #3 Orono 16
Section Final: #2 Minnetonka 16 over #1 Eden Prairie 13
Notable Players
2026 Dylan Collins (Orono) - Committed to Furman - D1
The oldest or Orono’s (3) high fliers, she’s the first leading their triple pronged attack for the next few years.
2027 Layla Nick (Orono)
92 points, 103 DCs, Team USA tryouts. She’s a “factor.”
2025 Clara Gilbert (Minnetonka) - Committed to Niagara - D1
Absolute cannon of a right handed shot. Sorry section 2 goalies.
2026 Lily Palm (Minnetonka) - Committed to Connecticut - D1
She’s going to go off filling the scoring void left by the 2024s.
2026 Maddyn Greenway (Mound Westonka/Providence Academy) - Committed to Kentucky for Basketball*
Lead MW/PA in scoring with 356 points, and 247 DCs in 6 games last year…not too shabby. Gave up track midway through the season, because it was “stupid and pointless.” Took up lacrosse as she needed an athletic challenge, and was “sick and tired of winning state championships.”
*Chad - don’t sue us…this was clearly a bit. Again. But seriously…lacrosse is way more fun to play and watch than track and field.
2027 Riley Teele (Orono)
“Only” 61 points.
2025 Hannah Grimm (Chanhassen) - Committed to Northern Michigan - D2
2 years ago, no less than the real Katie PMac said that she had the best stick skills on the team (a team with Gabby Bjugan, Aly McPartland, Allie Welder, and Tatum Nyen). Feels like its worth a mention.
2025 Adi Rothschild (Minnetonka) - Committed to Fort Lewis - D2
Going to anchor the defense and have to stop all of the shots from the youngsters at Orono.
2026 Zoe Zielinski (Chanhassen)
28/12/40 last year on her ACL bounce back. Opportunity and recovery should boost these.
Projected Items of Interest
Orono - still a young team, but now a team with some experience. We’ve already been seated in the Orono bandwagon, but now we are seeing the good seats are starting to fill up.
How does Eden Prairie bounce back after losing 269 points from five 2024s? Looks for Sara David, Kelsey Pottinger and Maggie Pearson to fill some of the gaps.
Mound Westonka/Providence Academy. All Maddyn Greenway jokes aside…only lost 3 seniors and a ton of scoring coming back. Grace McCutheon had 81 of the team’s 88 DC. Almost made our notables with that - wow.
Waconia. What? Hey, they’re not going to win the section. Their 3 leading scorers last year were an 8th grader, a 9th grader, and an 8th grader. Youngsters learning lessons turn into veterans with a lot of experience. Keep it going Waconia.
You know who we didn’t talk about? Delano & Holy Family. Maybe they’re good. Maybe they’re bad. But we don’t know grad years, so we can’t speculate…so don’t worry, we won’t talk about you
