DTA Power Rankings: GIRLS – May 21

Last week before section – let’s go!

Bowser

1.     Lakeville South (11-0):  Stillwater stalled the game enough to keep it close, but really never tried to press out or score on offense to make a comeback.  Is South so good that they render top 10 team happy with a 4-6 goal losses?  Well…we got what we wanted:  Lakeville South vs Prior Lake, with both teams undefeated…

Key games:  Beat Chan 16-3, beat BSM 16-9, beat Rosemount 21-3, beat Stillwater 10-4.

2.     Prior Lake (11-0):…and vying for the South Suburban conference crown.  South is Section 1 and PL is Section 6, so no section impact, but we have the clear top 2 teams in the state…and unless one beats the other by 20…they are going to stay in the top 2.  Only the order is up for debate.

Key games:  Beat Stillwater 10-8, beat Edina 14-8, beat Chan 17-10, beat EP 20-14, beat Rosemount 19-6.

Mario

3.     Edina (10-1):  Only one game for the Hornets this week and two tough-ish ones for the last week of the season.  Edina is favored in both and are starting to look very sharp.  Its really unfortunately that one of the two (PL and Edina) have to miss the state championship week.

Key games:  Beat EP 13-10, lost to PL 14-8, beat Tonka 17-3, beat Rosemount 13-7, beat Wayzata 15-7.

4.     Maple Grove (11-0):  So…does MG move up over BSM?  BSM lost to South and Chan.  MG is undefeated.  Common “good” win is against Blake…BSM 13-10 and MG 10-3.  Other good wins for one is roughly comparative as the other.  Kinda feels like MG has earned a spot over BSM.  Its certainly in a “who is the hotter team right now” type of scenario.

Key games:  Beat Centennial 11-6, beat Andover 14-3, beat Elk River Zimmerman 10-9, beat Armstrong 13-3, beat Blake 10-3.

5.     BSM (8-2):  Ahhh…maybe Chan isn’t as dead as we thought, but BSM has still been the better team through the season.  The loss is concerning for the Scarlet Knights.  Three games this week...@ Woodbury (they are plucky), Waconia and New Prague.  Should be a three win week.

Key games:  Beat EP 12-9, beat Blake 13-10, lost to Lakeville South 16-9, beat Wayzata 11-5, lost to Chanhassen 10-9.

Luigi

6.     Chanhassen (7-3):  Well done Chan!  Proved us wrong as doubters.  Maybe proved a little to yourself too.  Three VERY winnable games heading into sections.

Key games: Beat Tonka 13-9, beat EP 14-3, beat Blake 15-8, lost to South 16-3, lost to PL 17-10, lost to Bloomington Jefferson 12-9, beat CDH 11-9, beat BSM 10-9.

7.     Eden Prairie (7-4):  Close win against Blake.  Blow out against STMA.  They basically stary the same, but Stillwater slips down.

Key games:  Beat Wayzata 10-9, lost to BSM 12-9, lost to Edina 13-10, lost Chan 14-3, beat Tonka 17-3, lost to PL 20-14, beat Blake 15-14.

8.     Stillwater (9-3):  Honestly…we are worried about Stillwater.  Watching the stream against South – they did not look good.  Lots of unforced turnovers.  Very static on offense.  The other losses and close wins maybe make a more sense.  Honestly…is their best game the 2 goal loss to PL to start the season?

Key games:  Beat CDH 15-12, beat Rosemount 14-13 in OT, lost to PL 10-8, lost to Park 6-5, beat Woodbury 11-10, lost to South 10-4.

9.     Minnetonka (9-3):  Didn’t do anything to move up…or down.  After last week, thats a win for the Skippers.  Would have liked to see a more convincing win against the Bison.

Key games:  Lost to Chan 13-9, beat Wayzata 15-10, lost to Edina 17-3, lost to EP 16-11, beat Buffalo 8-7.

10.     Park (11-1):  Guess what?  You’re moving up!  Shut the door on CDH.  Locked up 1 seed in section.  7 Ws in a row.  We’re sleeping on you…even though we picked you.

Key games:  Beat White Bear Lake 7-6, beat Stillwater 6-5, lost to Woodbury 12-10, beat East Ridge 5-3, beat CDH 7-5.

11.     Gentry (10-0):  4 games this week for the charter of charters.  Fun to see them taking charter busses to all the games as the charter school.  On point.  They are moving up a spot because of CDH, but cannot put them over the rest…even after the latest SEC filings on PMAC’s hedge fund.

Key games:  Beat Hutchinson 15-2

12.    Champlin Park (11-1):  We said they had a week last week…and they had another one this week.  Going WAY up in the power rankings.  Loss to Wayzata looking really odd.  Curious they have 14 games…MSHSL says you can only have 13.  Not only are they hot, they don’t have to play by the rules!  Is the MSHSL pulling an NBA bit and scripting out how this is all going to go down?

Key games:  Lost to Wayzata 8-5, beat Andover 7-6, beat Centennial 15-3, beat Armstrong 14-4, beat ERZ 11-8.

Toad

13.     Blake (7-4):  Beating the Star Tribune darling 12-8 is a good thing.

Key games:  Beat Wayzata 10-7, lost to BSM 13-10, lost to Chan 15-8, lost to Maple Grove 10-3, lost to EP 15-14, beat Jefferson 12-8.

14.  CDH (8-4):  The lights got a little too bright for the Raiders of CDH this week.  Lots of gaudy numbers coming in, but didn’t get to double digits in either game this week…both losses.  They close out the season against Buffalo, which should be a win.  If not, then they are way more of a paper tiger than we were led to believe.  Alarming they only have one “good” win.

Key games:  Beat Woodbury 15-8, lost to White Bear Lake 9-8, lost to Stillwater 15-12, lost to Chanhassen 11-9, lost to Park 7-5.

15.    White Bear Lake (8-3):  Well.  They keep beating each other.  East Ridge beat WBL in their only game this week.

Key games:  Beat H-M 12-5, beat CDH 9-8, beat Woodbury 13-10, lost to Park 7-6, lost to Stillwater 12-4, lost to East Ridge 7-6.

16.    Woodbury (8-4):  Got their two winnable games in…now they have BSM.  Might get a little too real, as we’d bet the Scarlet Knights are going to be a little hacked off after losing to Chan.

Key games:  Beat H-M 9-8, beat Simley 12-11, beat Park 12-10, lost to East Ridge 6-5, lost CDH 15-8, lost to WBL 13-10, lost to Stillwater 11-10.

17.    Elk River/Zimmerman (8-3):  Sorry, Champlin Park is overtaking you.  You should finish 10-3 (OPC and Armstrong), but we felt like you were going to check CP.  Oops.  We were wrong.

Key games:  Lost to Maple Grove 10-9, lost to Andover 5-4, beat Rosemount 9-7, beat Centennial 14-7, lost o Champlin Park 11-8.

18.    East Ridge (8-4):  Pretty decent bounce back week for the Raptors.  Finish with Visitation.

Key games:  Beat Woodbury 6-5, lost to Stillwater 14-3, lost to Mahtomedi 10-9, lost to CDH 18-8, lost to Park 5-3, beat WBL 7-6, beat H-M 13-12.

19.    Andover (8-3):  Mission accomplished against Armstrong…sort of.

Key games:  Beat ER/Z 5-4, lost to MG 14-3, lost to Centennial 6-3, lost to Champlin Park 7-6, beat Armstrong 6-5.

Yoshi

20.    Rosemount (6-6):  As predicted…a pretty tough week for the Irish, playing the state ranked first and second teams this week.  Went as expected.  End vs Eastview/Eagan – that better go as expected.

Key games:  Beat Bloomington Jefferson 11-9, lost to Hill Murray 9-8, lost to Stillwater, 14-13, lost to ERZ 9-7, lost to Edina 13-7, lost to South 21-3, lost to PL 19-6.

21.    Bloomington Jefferson (7-4):  You’re not falling out of the top 25…but you’re moving down in it.  Has Waconia this week…who did the scheduling for Waconia?  End the season with Gentry, BSM, Chanhassen, Bloomington Jefferson.  That would wild for Prior Lake…its insanity for Waconia.

Key games:  Lost to Rosemount 11-9, lost to Edina 11-2, lost to BSM 17-4, beat Chan 12-9, beat Chaska 22-8, lost to Blake 12-8.

22.    Centennial (7-3):  Should get final two this week.

Key games:  Beat Andover 6-3, beat Armstrong 9-8, lost to Maple Grove 11-6, lost to Champlin Park 15-3. Lost to ERZ 14-7.

23.    Wayzata (6-6):  Got Andover between them and being above .500.  Lost 6 out of last 7.

Key games:  Beat Champlin Park 8-5, lost to Blake 10-7, lost to EP 10-9, lost to Tonka 15-10, lost to BSM 11-5, lost to Hopkins 9-8, lost to Edina 15-7.

24.  Hutchinson (8-4):  Hutch had a tough stretch first week in May losing 3 straight, but are on a 5 game heater.  Their bounce back deserves a spot on the power rankings.

Key games:  Lost to Buffalo 21-6, lost to Orono 18-5, lost to Shakopee 11-7, lost to Gentry 15-2, beat SWC 9-8.

25.   Southwest Christian/Jordan (12-1): Great interview on the pod.  First to finish 13 games.  Wants to play a tougher schedule (we’re looking at you Gentry)

Key games:  Lost to Hutchinson 9-8

Others:  Mahtomedi (8-4), Hill-Murray (7-5), Chaska (5-5), Buffalo (6-6), Hopkins (6-6), Chisago Lakes (10-0), Armstrong (6-5)
