DTA Power Rankings: GIRLS – May 26

Last power rankings as we roll into sections.  Shout out to Succession’s series finale for our tiers this week.

1.     Lakeville South (13-0):  Shout out to Lakeville South for answering every question asked of them.  In the instant classic on Tuesday, Prior Lake threw everything they had at them, and South took it and rallied back.  As clear of a #1 team we have.  BSM boys like (but we aren’t going all Maui Jim on them).  All hail the Cougars from Lakeville South.

Key games:  Beat Chan 16-3, beat BSM 16-9, beat Rosemount 21-3, beat Stillwater 10-4, beat PL 14-13.

2.     Prior Lake (11-1):  Tuesday’s game lived up to all the hype it could have.  A clear-cut case of whomever wins is #1 and whomever loses is #2.  Man, we hope we get a rematch in the state champ game.

Key games:  Beat Stillwater 10-8, beat Edina 14-8, beat Chan 17-10, beat EP 20-14, beat Rosemount 19-6, lost to South 14-13.

3.     Maple Grove (13-0):  Class of the North metro after their beating of Champlin Park 13-7.  We still hear rumblings about their legitimacy (just ask the top 10 poll on MN Lax Hub), but they’ve beat everyone they’ve been tasked to, at a much more difficult clip then some (side eyes to PMAC’s favorite charter).

Key games:  Beat Centennial 11-6, beat Andover 14-3, beat Elk River Zimmerman 10-9, beat Armstrong 13-3, beat Blake 10-3, beat CP 13-7.

4.     Edina (11-2):  The buzzing we’ve been hearing was the Edina girls senior laden squad, rolling through the schedule (just ask their social media team)…and it suddenly went silent in a 4 OT thriller against Stillwater.

Key games:  Beat EP 13-10, lost to PL 14-8, beat Tonka 17-3, beat Rosemount 13-7, beat Wayzata 15-7, lost to Stillwater 12-11 in 4 OT.

5.     BSM (11-2):  Its too bad we didn’t get a regular season matchup between MG and BSM…so section seedings will be left to projections and not past performance.  Whomever gets the #2 seed in section 5 is going to have a chip on their shoulder…but we think MG has earned the one spot…but that doesn’t necessarily mean we think MG will win the section…

Key games:  Beat EP 12-9, beat Blake 13-10, lost to Lakeville South 16-9, beat Wayzata 11-5, lost to Chanhassen 10-9, beat Woodbury 16-5.

6.     Stillwater (10-3):  PMAC was at the game as the PL boys played Stillwater afterwards, which is good, since Stillwater doesn’t stream their games.  A school like that must have some sort of video production AV class/group.  Good for them for showing that they belong in the top teams of the state.

Key games:  Beat CDH 15-12, beat Rosemount 14-13 in OT, lost to PL 10-8, lost to Park 6-5, beat Woodbury 11-10, lost to South 10-4, beat Edina 12-11 in 4 OT.

7.     Chanhassen (10-3):  Not a hard end to the regular season, but a positive end to the regular season.

Key games: Beat Tonka 13-9, beat EP 14-3, beat Blake 15-8, lost to South 16-3, lost to PL 17-10, lost to Bloomington Jefferson 12-9, beat CDH 11-9, beat BSM 10-9.

8.     Eden Prairie (8-4):  Beat down of Breck to close out the regular season.  Has really looked solid since whipping Minnetonka.  Very excited for the section 2 match ups the next two weeks.

Key games:  Beat Wayzata 10-9, lost to BSM 12-9, lost to Edina 13-10, lost Chan 14-3, beat Tonka 17-3, lost to PL 20-14, beat Blake 15-14.

9.     Park (12-1):  There is no hotter team in section 3 and maybe no team hotter in the state (Lakeville South excluded) then Park.  After the stumble against Woodbury, they’ve won 8 straight.

Key games:  Beat White Bear Lake 7-6, beat Stillwater 6-5, lost to Woodbury 12-10, beat East Ridge 5-3, beat CDH 7-5.

10.     Minnetonka (10-3):  A nothing burger of a week for the Skippers.  Have they cleared the cobwebs enough from their losses to EP and Edina?

Key games:  Lost to Chan 13-9, beat Wayzata 15-10, lost to Edina 17-3, lost to EP 16-11, beat Buffalo 8-7.

11.     Gentry (12-0):  The tour continued for the Stars this week and ending the regular season undefeated.  Soon we’ll see them play some stronger competition and hopefully see what they really can do against a team like Stillwater.  We’ve been waiting for this, not its time to prove how good you all say you are.  Look at MG’s schedule…do that and go 12-0 and you’d be in the top 5 too.

Key games:  Beat Hutchinson 15-2, beat Simley 13-3

12.     Blake (8-5):  Kind of feels like this is the most reading of water you can come up with.

Key games:  Beat Wayzata 10-7, lost to BSM 13-10, lost to Chan 15-8, lost to Maple Grove 10-3, lost to EP 15-14, beat Jefferson 12-8, lost to Edina 15-8

13.    Champlin Park (12-2):  A big F off to the MSHSL with your 14 game schedule!  You know we love seeing people spit in the face of the MSHSL!  Good on you CP…make them enforce their rules!

Key games:  Lost to Wayzata 8-5, beat Andover 7-6, beat Centennial 15-3, beat Armstrong 14-4, beat ERZ 11-8, lost to MG 13-7.

14.    White Bear Lake (10-3):  They’re 10-3…the got to be higher than CDH?

Key games:  Beat H-M 12-5, beat CDH 9-8, beat Woodbury 13-10, lost to Park 7-6, lost to Stillwater 12-4, lost to East Ridge 7-6, beat Maht 17-7.

15.  CDH (8-5):  OK.  Three losses in a row to end the regular season…not a great way to enter sections.  Losing to disappointing Buffalo at home…not a great look.  They have their two mega scoring stars, but have teams started to figure out that riddle?  Or…what sort of adjustments will CDH make?

Key games:  Beat Woodbury 15-8, lost to White Bear Lake 9-8, lost to Stillwater 15-12, lost to Chanhassen 11-9, lost to Park 7-5, lost to Buffalo 15-12.

16.    Elk River/Zimmerman (10-3):  We want to move you up…but we can’t quite do it right now.

Key games:  Lost to Maple Grove 10-9, lost to Andover 5-4, beat Rosemount 9-7, beat Centennial 14-7, lost to Champlin Park 11-8, beat Armstrong 9-6.

17.    Woodbury (8-5):  A little bit of a scruffy end to the season, but losing to higher ranked teams.  They MIGHT slip a spot of two, but we really appreciate their playing a legit schedule.

Key games:  Beat H-M 9-8, beat Simley 12-11, beat Park 12-10, lost to East Ridge 6-5, lost CDH 15-8, lost to WBL 13-10, lost to Stillwater 11-10, lost to BSM 16-5.

18.    Andover (10-3):  Despite the disrespect that JP showed Andover last week, we still respect the hell out of you.

Key games:  Beat ER/Z 5-4, lost to MG 14-3, lost to Centennial 6-3, lost to Champlin Park 7-6, beat Armstrong 6-5, beat Wayzata 10-6.

19.    Rosemount (7-6):  Their best wins are 11-9 over Jefferson and 17-12 over Eastview/Eagan.  Needed a win or two against H-M, ERZ or Stillwater.

Key games:  Beat Bloomington Jefferson 11-9, lost to Hill Murray 9-8, lost to Stillwater, 14-13, lost to ERZ 9-7, lost to Edina 13-7, lost to South 21-3, lost to PL 19-6.

20.    Bloomington Jefferson (9-4):  Kinda beat who you should, the way you should this week.

21.    East Ridge (9-4):  We cannot stop talking about how fun section 3 will be.

Key games:  Beat Woodbury 6-5, lost to Stillwater 14-3, lost to Mahtomedi 10-9, lost to CDH 18-8, lost to Park 5-3, beat WBL 7-6, beat H-M 13-12.

22.    Centennial (9-3):  Closer than it should have been against Rogers.

Key games:  Beat Andover 6-3, beat Armstrong 9-8, lost to Maple Grove 11-6, lost to Champlin Park 15-3. Lost to ERZ 14-7.

23.  Hutchinson (9-4):  Squeaker against Delano, but a win is a win.

Key games:  Lost to Buffalo 21-6, lost to Orono 18-5, lost to Shakopee 11-7, lost to Gentry 15-2, beat SWC 9-8.

24.  Chisago Lakes (14-0):  Listen…has their schedule been difficult?  Nope. Do they deserve credit for going undefeated?  You’re god damn right they do.  Super balanced scoring puts them over SWC…that and pulling a Champlin Park and thumbing their nose at our friends at MSHSL with their 14-game schedule!  Hey-  we assume they both got waivers for playing Duluth Marshall…but there were lots of teams with only 12 games…and we know Gentry would have loved to whip them.

Key games:  Beat Forest Lake 8-7

25.   Southwest Christian/Jordan (12-1):  No games this week.

Key games:  Lost to Hutchinson 9-8

Others:  Buffalo (7-6), Hopkins (7-6), Mahtomedi (8-5), Hill-Murray (7-5), Armstrong (7-6)
