Instant Reaction

Similar to PL…losing 3 mega producers and a goalie.  Different from PL…they lost more role players and depth, and it isn’t totally apparent what’s there to back fill from the underclasses.

The amount of production and reliance from their top 3 field players was really remarkable through their run to the state championship game.

Uma is obviously in a different class between the pipes on the ice…and a lot of that translated to the field.  Not sure what Princeton’s lax goalie situation is…but she’d really mess some people up if she played club out there!

The Future

Mia Maxwell is the counter to their 3 mega 2023s.  The question is how she plays as the lead and not supporting actress?  A lot of her scoring opportunities came from playing off of the top 3, and we’d bet most of those 36 assists.  For reference, the assists by their top 3 studs combined don’t match Mia’s assist total.

On top of that, Edina loses 8 2023s…not just the stars, but all 8 were starters!

Wow source, you’re awfully negative.  Yeah, we kinda are (losing 2/3 of your starters feels like a big deal), but all is not lost for the Hornets.  We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled on the off season stuff to get a better handle on Moe, Busby 2.0 and Ewers...while being led by Maxwell.

There’s also a 2027 that has been making some noise in the greater MN community who had 12 varsity games played, per the always reliable MLH – that’s no joke for a team that took second in the state tournament.

People WILL step in and fill roles those 8 played, obviously.  How all those new ingredients mix together is the question.

Stat Crusade

In our crusade on assist percentage…Edina assisted 89/256 goals scored…34.8%.  For the record, the top 3 teams were 59.1%, 50.1% and 34.8%.  Kinda wild.  Also makes sense based on Edina’s dodge and drive dominant style of play in 2023.  The swings of this number with the first three teams basically guarantees we are keeping this bit going.

2024 Schedule?

Edina’s AD appears a little more focused on fall sports than South and PL, apparently, only showing their Lake Conference games.  But others say they’re playing them, so its probably a paperwork thing.

Interesting Nugget No One is Talking About

All 8 of their 2023s were starters.  Its got to be a rocky start until Coach Crampton knows what she has.

In Conclusion

Are we worried about Edina?  No…cake will still be plentiful around 50th and France.  Does this look like more of a rebuilding season for the Hornets than some others…yeah, we think so.  But that’s probably more normal than not, especially graduating as large and decorated a class as their 2023s…the real complaint here should be that we didn’t give the group on the whole enough credit when they were playing.
