Section 6 Preview: 2024 MSHSL Girls Lacrosse

Like Section 5, also had 4 writes ups from last year’s top 20, yet seems way less interesting than Section 5.

Shakopee enters Section 6, from Section 2 (but not Eden Prairie like on the boys side). We are unclear what is going on with Apple Valley and Burnsville (Co-op? No co-op?) - am sure time will tell.

Mrs. Pmac’s Source’s Section 6 2024 Projected Top 4

First – Prior Lake

Second – Rosemount

Third – Edina

Fourth – Bloomington Jefferson

Keeping Our Eye On – Holy Angels

Prior Lake

2023 Record: 13-2

2023 Lost to Edina 10-9 in Section 6 Finals as 1 Seed

State Tournament Appearances: 5 times - 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 & 2021. State Champions 2019 & 2021

We talk plenty about Prior Lake.  Facts of that matter are that they have a DEEP program, but the last two section championships have not…gone the way the Lakers would have liked.

They lost (3) D1 commits and (1) D2 commit…but have (11) players…yes (11)…already committed somewhere in the NCAA, on the squad, obviously not including their 2026 contributors returning and their next crops of 27s.

They have their entire defense, in front of their new goalie, returning. Besides the keeper, their biggest question is who is going to supply all the goals that their seniors graduated with? Our feel is that ‘24 Kayleigh Sandell (GVSU), ‘25 Abby Grove (Rutgers), ‘25 Tali Baldzicki (GVSU) and ‘24 Sadie Chappuis (Colorado Mesa) are the most likely candidates.

Key wins:

  1. Stillwater 10-8

  2. Edina 14-8

  3. Chanhassen 17-10

  4. Eden Prairie 20-14

  5. Rosemount 19-6

Key losses:

  1. Lakeville South 14-13

  2. Edina 10-9

  4. Ruby Burandt (GK) - 5.77 GAA/42.9% - D2 University of Mount Olive

  1. 2024 Kayleigh Sandell (A) - 49 points - D2 Grand Valley State

  2. 2024 Sadie Chappuis (A) - 35 points - D2 Colorado Mesa

  3. 2025 Abby Grove (M) - 17 points - D1 Rutgers

  4. 2025 Madeline Sazama (D) - 26 GB/19 FT - D2 Grand Valley State

  5. 2024 Piper Green (D) - 16 GB/21 DT - D2 Colorado Mesa

Rosemount

2023 Record: 8-7

2023 Lost to Edina in Section 6 Semifinals as the 3 seed

State Tournament Appearances: 2 times - 2021 & 2022

Rosemount’s biggest loss is their leading point scorer (2025 Ella Mills to Lakeville South), but return a lot, especially in their 2025 class.  This placement is as much about what Edina loses, combined with Rosemount’s remaining 2025s getting a younger older and better.

They’re also supported by a pretty solid 2027 class, so excitement should not fade for Rosemount this year, or the years to follow.

Key wins:

  1. Simley 16-6

Key losses:

  1. Hill-Murray 9-8

  2. Stillwater 14-13

  3. Elk River/Zimmerman 9-7

  4. Edina 13-7 & 17-5

  5. Lakeville South 21-3

  6. Prior Lake 19-6

Key players they lose:

  1. Caroline Mroczenski (D) - 23 GB, 14 FT

  2. 2025 Ella Mills (M) - 53 points/26 DC (transferred to Lakeville South)

Key players coming back:

  1. 2025 Aubrey Zaun (M) - 49 points/62 DC - D2 Florida Tech

  2. 2025 Emma Theissen (M) - 40 points - D3 College of St. Bennedict’s

  3. 2025 Izzy Mroczenski (A) - 34 points

  4. 2026 Rachel Joseph (GK) - 10.22 GAA/39.5%

Edina

2023 Record: 16-3

2023 Beat Prior Lake in Section 6 Championship as 2 Seed. Lost to BSM in State Championship game.

State Tournament Appearances: 1 time - 2023

We talk over and over and over about the (3) big stars Edina lost (Santoni, Busby and Velner).  They also lose mega goalie Uma Corniea and (2) defensive starters.  That’s a lot.  They have little Busby, little Santoni, Mia Maxwell and a few others, which will keep them firmly in the top three…but out of the top 2.

Key wins:

  1. Eden Prairie 13-10

  2. Minnetonka 17-3

  3. Buffalo 16-6

  4. Rosemount 13-7 & 17-5

  5. Wayzata 15-7

  6. Prior Lake 10-9

  7. Champlin Park 13-5

  8. Stillwater 10-7

Key losses:

  1. Prior Lake 14-8

  2. Stillwater 12-11

  3. BSM 11-10

Key players they lose:

  1. Nicola Santoni (M) - 87 points/73 DC

  2. Mary Velner (M) - 60 points/49 DC - D1 Marquette

  3. Elle Busby (M) - 41 points/44 DC - D1 Xavier

  4. Uma Corniea (GK) - 6.61 GAA/52.7% - D1 Princeton (hockey)

Key players coming back:

  1. 2024 Mia Maxwell (A) - 71 points

  2. 2025 Lyric Busby (M) - 16 points - D1 Cincinnati

  3. 2026 Kathryn Ewers (M) - 15 points/18 DC

  4. 2024 Josie Moe (A) - 21 points

Bloomington Jefferson

2023 Record: 10-5

2023 Lost to Prior Lake in Section 6 Semifinals as the 4 seed

State Tournament Appearances: 1 time - 2011

Seems like last year was Bloomington Jefferson’s chance to make a lot of noise…with solid 2023s and a bunch of 24s and 25s to help out.  This seems like plenty to keep them where they are at, but not enough to overcome the top 3 in the section. We’re really curious what next year is going to bring for the Jaguars and their large 2025 class - hoping we see some things developing in the younger classes, so they can make a run at upsetting some of the top dogs.

Key wins:

  1. Orono 13-11

  2. Chanhassen 12-9

Key losses:

  1. Rosemount 11-9

  2. Edina 11-2

  3. BSM 17-2

  4. Blake 12-8

  5. Prior Lake 16-9

Key players they lose:

  1. (7) 2023s

  2. Emelia Lowe (A) - 60 points/26 DC - D2 St. Leo

  3. Alison Wolfe (A) - 48 points

Key players coming back:

  1. 2025 Kylie Jones (M) - 36 points/52 DC

  2. 2024 Marlee Hanson (GK) - 8.41 GAA/40.2% - D2 CSP

  3. 2025 Beatrice Ruble (M) - 25 points/41 DC

  4. 2025 Molly Jensen (A) - 21 points

Shakopee

2023 Record: 4-11

2023 Lost to Chanhassen in Section 2 Quarterfinals as 9 seed

State Tournament Appearances: none

Moving in from Section 2, Shakopee takes the 5 spot.

Holy Angels

2023 Record: 7-6

2023 Lost to Rosemount in Section 6 Quarterfinals as 6 seed

State Tournament Appearances: none

We like what we think we see coming out of Holy Angels.  7-6 last year, with some good set of games on their schedule, their final game of the regular season is against Shakopee…so could decide the top seed of their play in games. Plus Team 36 bias.

Eastview/Eagan

2023 Record: 6-8

2023 Lost to Bloomington Jefferson in Section 6 Quarterfinals as 5 seed

State Tournament Appearances: none

We’re slotting in Eastview/Eagan in at the 7 spot.  And they lose a lot (like all of their production and their best defender), but this is an adjacent Eagan is Eagan take.

Bloomington Kennedy

2023 Record: 5-9

2023 Lost to Edina in Section 6 Quarterfinals as 7 seed

State Tournament Appearances: 2 times - 2007 & 2008

We roll Bloomington Kennedy in at 8.  BK doesn’t list their grad years on MLH, so we’re only betting that EV/E has a deeper bench than BK has.

Apple Valley/Burnsville (3 times as AV - 2012, 2014 & 2018. Won State Championship in 2018) and MPLS Co-op.  Neither team lists their grad years either, so it’s a little hard to project out what they have coming back, combined with our uncertainty on the AV/B co-op situation.  We’re rooting for one of them to prove us wrong and be higher than these spots.
