GIRLS: Quarterly Section Check-In

Its early for EVERYONE.  Coaches, refs, players, parents, the weather.

Way too early to start our undefeated list from…but we’re keeping notes.

Section 1

• Lakeville South played their first game Saturday and is 1-0 and play EV/E Tuesday and Chanhassen on Friday…we are very interested in that game.

• Century and North are both 2-1, but North beat Century on Saturday 9-4

• Farmington is 1-2 with firm losses to Blake and Minnetonka.  We were lucky enough to watch the stream of the Minnetonka/Farming game.  Farmington has a TON of 9th and 10th graders player – this bodes well in future years.

Section 2

• Chanhassen (2-0) established a pecking order right out of the gate in Section 2 beating Minnetonka 12-9 and EP 14-3.  They play Chaska on Thursday and then right back with South on Friday.

• EP (2-2) might be in trouble…like falling outside top 10 in state type of trouble.

• SWC played and won their first game Thursday and then again Friday and Saturday to go 3-0. 

Section 3

• Park (2-0) beat first week darling White Bear Lake 7-6.  They play 3 games this week, including Woodbury on Friday.

• Woodbury (2-1) and could, arguably should, be 3-0.  Gave up a half time lead and didn’t score a goal in second half against East Ridge.  They play 3 important games this week against Simley, CDH and Park.  We’ll know what Woodbury is very soon.

• Speaking of East Ridge, they’re 3-0, but play Stillwater Wednesday.  They also have Roseville and Mahtomedi.  They didn’t make our top 4, but maybe section 3 is a 5 or 6 team bit (we see you too St. Croix Prep).

• CDH (2-1) impressed, until they got in a fight with a bear from a lake.  Jordin Rosga is kinda going off as a 7th grader (12g, 1a)…not to overshadow Sofia Watts (18g, 4a).  Things get more real for CDH playing Mahtomedi, Woodbury and Stillwater this week.

• Simley picked a tough way to start the season – we imagine that they’ll be happy to return to a more typical schedule for them!

Section 4

• We’re sorry White Bear Lake (2-1).  You deserved to be at 4 and maybe 3 in our section preseason rank.  Nice start, even with a 1 goal loss to Park.

• Stillwater (2-1) isn’t going anywhere and their strength of schedule goes back up this week with East Ridge, CDH and Rosemount.

• Even with their win against Rosemount on Thursday, Hill-Murray (1-2) is NOT clicking, like not close to top 20.  Reminder:  Ted picked them to win the section.  Interested to see their Farmington game on Saturday.

• Gentry doesn’t play until May – we don’t hate them, its not our fault they don’t have any games scheduled.  Please don’t call us clueless because all we know is your…checking our notes…JV beat Holy Angels’ JV.

Section 5

• Fire!  Our favorite section.

• Maple Grove (2-0) might be making a statement

  • Beat Centennial 11-6

  • Beat Andover 14-3 (who then beat Elk River/Zimmerman 5-4)

  • Get Blaine and ER/Z this week

• Blake is 2-0 (Ellie Morrison missed the first game -she played against Simley) and has BSM and Wayzata this week

• BSM is 3-0 and is headed to Blake Tuesday for the Bentley vs Beamer Classic

• We slept on Wayzata (not really), but they are 3-0 after beating Buffalo last Thursday and Champlin Park on Saturday.  Got STMA, Breck and Blake this week.  Thanks for putting names, numbers, grad years and stats Wayzata!  Very balanced scoring with 10th graders the 1st and 3rd leading scorers.

• Armstrong is 2-0.  We’re going to check in with you after next week when your schedule gets SIGNIFICANTLY harder.

Section 6

• Prior Lake (2-0) is doing Prior Lake things. Has Shakopee and Edina this week.

• Edina’s (2-0) stream option is disgusting, but they’re beating who they need to.  Has EP and PL this week.

• Should we be concerned about Rosemount (1-1)?

  • We had them 9th in the state in preseason.

  • Last year’s starting goalie is not rostered as of this writing

  • 1-1 after a loss Thursday to underwhelming H-M team and a close W against Jefferson on last Saturday.

  • Has North, Simley and Stillwater this week.

Feels like we should be concerned about them.

Section 7

• Weird

• Centennial is 2-1 got handled by MG.  Has 2 games this week, including against Andover Wednesday

• Andover is 2-1, but got throttled by MG and then beat ER/Z.  Has 2 games this week, including against Cent on Wednesday

• Champlin Park (3-1) rolled in first three games, but then got popped in the face against Wayzata.  Only 1 game this week against Osseo/Park Center.

• We were wrong – CP should be over Forest Lake (1-3)…our apologies to Champlin Park!

Section 8

• Buffalo 3-1 with Orono and STMA this week.

• Elk River/Zimmerman (1-1) lost a 1g game to Andover.  Has 2 games this week, including against Maple Grove

• Moorhead (1-1) lost a close one against Mounds View that feels like they should have won and had a 2 goal win against Duluth.  Things get real this week – their only game is against Minnetonka.

• STMA (0-1) played once against Minnetonka.  Things aren’t really easy this week with Wayzata, Buffalo and SLP.
