GIRLS Top 20 Preview: #16 Chanhassen
Reminder: our list is based off of the laxnumbers ranking list…here. Don’t hate the journalists…hate the algorithm or your shooting percentage.
Uncle Ted is getting a little agro with his article release schedule. Time to step up.
Luckily, no one reads us, so no one noticed that we skipped Blake and went straight to ERZ. Well, Blake is published, go chase it down on the site.
What They Were
7-7, 75.88 Lax Number Rating against a 74.95 Lax Number Schedule.
#4 seed in Section 2. They lost to #1 Eden Prairie in Section Semifinals, 11-8
What They Lost
(5) 2024s are off to bigger and better things. Kind of feels like the final leaf to turnover in a long run for the Storm to a new generation of talent with this group signing off.
Gabby Bjugan - A: 46g/18a/64 points
Jayden Hahn - D: 25 GB/18 FT/9 DC
Katie Colleran - GK: 7-7, 58.1%, 9.19 GAA
What They Have Coming Back
2025 Hannah Grimm - M: 29g/6a/35 points, 17 GB/5 FT/39 DC
2026 Zoe Zielinski - A: 28g/12a/4 points, 7 GB/ 5FT/24 DC
2029 MJ Rondeau - GK: 0-0, 66.6%, 4.00 GAA
What They Have Looking Forward
12 games on the books. This is the first time we’ve got the chance to say that there’s a game hanging out there for our favorite charter school in Vadnais Heights…unfortunately, their rSchool schedule doesn’t even list activities, much less the schedule of those activities (but we have found them on the schedule of an up and coming Metro West team we were really high on last year). But we aren’t talking about them here.
In addition to their Metro West schedule (BSM & Orono), the Storm have #1 Lakeville South, #2 Prior Lake, #7 Eden Prairie, #8 Minnetonka, and #10 Maple Grove.
Not too shabby Storm. Typical for them, but still, not too shabby! We like having the tough schedules.
Our Take
Yeah. We like what is going on. They have a 2029 that got a little experience in the cage last year, so while there might have some bumpy moments this year, that it sets up well for them in the long term. They have (9) 2026s on the roster last year, so is next year the year they make another run at the Section 2 title? Feels like might be a possibility…but they’ll need a whole lot more coming out of the 27, 28, and 29 classes to start filling in the gaps. 2025 might not be the year with the state of things in their tough conference and section, but they’ll still be a factor in each and the only thing better then being the #1 seed is being the spoiler to the #1 seed - Chan can absolutely do that.
Might not be your parents’ Chan Storm, but discount them at your own risk - we wouldn’t.
