PLL News

DTA Nation,

As many lacrosse fans know, the PLL had some major news today. I will admit out front, I do not follow the PLL nearly as closely as MN HS Lacrosse….Opportunity for a “PLL Source” to join the DTA Crew??

The major news coming out was their 8 clubs to be placed into 8 cities. There was a ton of speculation for months on who would end up where. Recently, there was some news on MLL clubs coming back in, some PLL brands going out. Did this happen? Lets take a look….

The Boston Cannons:

This was a no brainer. The Cannons were a MLL brand that came to the PLL. They have always been a Boston brand and Boston is a great sports town. This one was a layup for the PLL, the city of Boston, and really everyone involved.

New York Atlas:

This is a jinxed franchise having Rabil be a part of it and getting all the old players on this team. It doesn’t roll great off the tongue either and their logo they posted on the announcement….not my cup of Tea.

Philly Waterdogs:

Again, don’t love how it rolls off the tongue. Minnesota lacrosse fans were convinced that this was going to be their team. Right or wrong, this was way too good of a team to come to MN. However, I deeply wanted them here too. Their connection to Barstool was cool, great colors that would have fit in nicely with the Vikings, and one of my teammates has been on their squad so I obviously would have loved to have him playing in our great state. Philly is a great sports town so good for those scum bags getting a team, huge swing and a miss for MN.

Maryland Whipsnakes:

Looking at their logo they posted, I actually like how this one looks and flows. Good brand, obviously Maryland was getting a team. This one fits in my opinion.

Carolina Chaos:

Now this one I can get behind in terms of branding. This flows perfectly, the red goes with the Hurricanes and bringing a team to Carolina isn’t what I would necessarily expect but this is awesome for them. Maybe this is the PLL taking a chance on Carolina? I am not sure TBH….

Denver Outlaws:

Welcome back outlaws. This is a home run bringing the outlaws back to Denver. Again, like the Cannons this is a no brainer and really cool for Colorado!

Utah Archers:

To be honest, if we didn’t get the Waterdogs I thought this was a MN franchise. I’m not sure why but that’s what my gut was telling me. Utah seems to be embracing lacrosse from the college game, now the PLL, and I am sure the youth and fans will follow. Huge win for Utah here.

California Redwoods:

Really spreading out these last couple of teams. Get ready to rack up the sky miles! I see the California connection here, but the branding is so much more midwest than Cali…

Biggest Winners: The Cannons and Outlaws getting back to their home towns.

Biggest Losers: Midwest Lacrosse

Other Losers: The fans who bought apparel of teams that are no longer around

Other Winners: West Coast Lacrosse seems to be growing and getting more exposure, programs and leagues every year.

How clueless do I sound?
