GIRLS Top 20 Preview: #10 Maple Grove
Reminder: our list is based off of the laxnumbers ranking list…here. Don’t hate the journalists…hate the algorithm or your shooting percentage.
Maple Grove might be THE IT school athletically in the state, most recently shown by their Prep Bowl win. Can their girls lax program parley that school momentum with their own momentum from last year?
What They Were

#2 seed in Section 5. They lost to #3 Champlin Park in section semifinal 10-9.
What They Lost
(7) 2024s, head lined by goalie Abby Quiram and attacker Megan Van Curler, with her all MN name and 48 points.

All 13 games are in the books and this is leading for toughest non SSC schedule and maybe just for toughest schedule in the state.
In their NWSC schedule, they have as featured matchups:
# 17 Elk River (State Participant)
Rogers
Centennial
State participant Andover
#5 Champlin Park
…and fiull out their schedule with:
#8 Minnetonka (State Participant)
#3 BSM (State Participant)
#2 Prior Lake (State Participant)
#16 Chanhassen
#11 Orono
Props to the Maple Grove coaches for not shying away from a mega tough schedule.
Our Take
Ryley Dunn is their current biggest commit (NCAA new comer Austin Peay) and they have a few other complimentaty pieces coming back.
Last year was a 1 year deal in the cage for the Crimson, but they did roster a 2028 goalie…so maybe they’re locked and loaded for a while.
Lets take a look back a their non wins last year:
Lost to EP 19-18 on 4/20
Lost to PL 18-6 on 5/1
Tied BSM 8-8 on 5/17
Lost to Champlin Park 10-9 on 6/3
Pretty good except for the stinker against a very pissed off Prior Lake team, coming off of their first loss to Lakeville South.
But were their wins all that? Notable:
Beat Elk River 10-9 on 4/29
Beat Chanhassen 11-6 on 5/9
Beat Centennial 11-10 on 5/13
Beat Champlin Park 9-8 on 5/22
Beat Wayzata 13-12 on 5/23
Not super dominant against similarly matched teams…their “best” win was 16-6 over Andover.
So they didn’t lose a ton of production, but maybe it was key production. Their Freshman in goal is going to take a little adjustment, but man…we love the hell out of their schedule and look very close to the section 5 match ups again BSM and Champlin Park…could this be an off year for those power houses that MG can take advantage off (more on that later)?
