What Happened Last Year

While Section 6 was boring…Section 7 was an absolutely gong show:

  • Semifinal 1: #5 Centennial beat #1 Chisago Lakes, 8-7

  • Semifinal #2: #6 Andover beat #2 Grand Rapids/Greenway, 11-5

  • Section Final: #6 Andover beat #5 Centennial, 9-6

Notable Players

Chisago Lakes

2025 Laura Carlson (Chisago Lakes) - Committed to Kennesaw State - D1

5.23 GAA & 63.0% save rate.  Yikes.

2026 Camryn Hinsch (Chisago Lakes)

Leading scorer as a soph, also chipped in with 37 DCs.

2026 Naomi Eaton (Chisago Lakes) - Committed to Concordia St. Paul - D2

Tied for second in scoring…had virtually duplicate numbers (17g/19a/36 points, 48 B/20 FT/24 DC) to…

2025 Lauren Schmidt (Chisago Lakes)

…21g/15a/36 points, 49 GB/7 FT/23 DC, complementing Eaton’s production.

Grand Rapids/Greenway

2025 Ryleigh Sherlock (Grand Rapids/Greenway)

Doesn’t really matter who you’re playing, but 72 points in 14 games means you’re producing on the field.  So you get a shout out here.  Keep it up.

Duluth Marshall

2025 Anna Hron (Duluth Marshall) - Committed to UW Stout - D3

We shouted her out in one of the commits lists we published, but congrats again on being the first college commit for lax out of Marshall.

Centennial

2025 Ella Weist (Centennial)

highest returning scorer for a squad and program that has been and will continue to be solid.  It would be dumb not to have an eye open and looking at Centennial.

Andover

2025 Maya Engler (Andover)

47 points and 42 DCs.  Safe to say that she is on opponents’ scouting reports.

2025 Lucy Morgan (Andover)

10.35 GAA/51.2% save.  Got some MEGA valuable experience in state vs Prior Lake and Elk River/Zimmerman.

Blaine

2025 Cierra Ledeen (Blaine)

OK - we are having a crisis with Blaine, because we want to shout out 8 players from a 5-9 team, but we are limiting that.  Let’s start with top scorer.

2027 Allison Sculthrop (Blaine)

Praying that PMAC doesn’t do his research and tries reading this last name cold on the pod.  36 GBs and 41 DCs feels like the type of play you’d like to have from a FRESHMAN.

Spring Lake Park

2025 Grace Schmidt (Spring Lake Park)

40 goals and 91 DCs!  Might want to have someone mark up on her.

Projected Items of Interest

Blaine was 5-9 last year…OK, so what? ZERO seniors. Want experience and leadership? How about literally everyone is eligible to return? To that point, only 5/21 are 2025s, suggesting that we might be a click early on the bandwagon…WHICH IS GREAT! We can find our spot and wait for everyone to start trickling in.

Chisago Lakes is the returning #1 seed, was 14-1…but lost 7 seniors. However, here is a direct quote from one of the many (now) source’s sources, “a very underrated team that deserves some more coverage.” Well, we are correcting that course this year. Now, more coverage means…more coverage.

What might be the best thing to start with for a successful team? Having a rock star goalie is top 3, right? Going to play D1 sports is about as rock star as things get in this sport and thats what CL has. In the LEAST, it’ll help you be in games.

Counterpoint that we need to address: getting beat in the semifinals by Centennial. Besides Lakeville South, CL were the last undefeated team last season, so there’s ton of positivity and looking forward at 2025’s schedule:

  1. They have Rogers, Blaine (our new darling squad?) & St. Croix Prep again. That’s all good.

  2. They added Hill-Murray & Champlin Park. Those are awesome adds!

Putting a potential undefeated regular season on the line in early May against some tougher competition is a great way to make your team more ready in the playoffs.

Also note that we reached out to the HC at Chisago Lakes for comment…and had a very pleasant conversation! Real journalism. And the pod crew had him on the pod. Sure things aren’t perfect for Chisago Lakes, but they’ve been knocking on the door for the past few years and feels like this is the year they are going to burst through.

Duluth Marshall (or maybe more properly the Marshall School, in Duluth) is trying to make things happen up North. Only 10 games last year, but their 6-4 record earned them a fairly high seeding. They lost (4) seniors, but virtually all of the production on both sides of the field are going back, including their D3 committed goalie, sporting a 62.3% save percentage. Don’t see them cracking the top 20…but its awesome seeing continued growth and progress. Love for them to see what CL is doing and adding some next level opponents, but its got to be hard trying to find ANY games from Duluth. They also had (9) 2027s on the roster last year, so things are certainly in the cupboard (and think what might happen if Chloe Johnson - look her up - got a lax stick in her hand…she might be even higher regarded in the class than Greenway is).

Marshall’s cross town rival, Duluth, is bringing back 14 (!) 2025s. Wow. They lose their top 2 producers, but talk about having some senior leadership coming back!

Anoka loses (3) 2024s, but has (10) 2025s and (7) 2026s. Just saying.

2025 Preseason Rankings

Full disclosure here…we think that the seeings in Section 7 were totally wack…as demonstrated by the section final being 5 seed vs 6 seed. We put these rankings how we think they should be, not what they will get ranked or a reflection on improvement/decline. Example: We think that Duluth Marshall is a better team, but we do not think they should have been a 4 seed last year.
