Instant Reaction

Now the 4th SSC team in the top 7 (based on lax numbers final rankings) the most glaring thing that stands out is Rosemount having to replace their top 3 scorers from last season. Over 60% of their points are now gone to graduation, so, the Irish will be looking to some new bodies to step in. Rosemount is a deep program with both a JV and Prep squad, so, they don’t need to rely on under-classmen as much as some smaller programs but there will be a shake-up on the offensive end. On Defense, they do get a few of their poles back, but, will look to replace stud goalie Aiden Sorsoleil who has manned the cage since he was a sophomore in 2021.

They do have a couple guys returning that will look to carry the torch on offense. Conner Shauer, Ryan Blaziak, Payton Sickel, Nico Donati and Jack Lenmark all contributed last year and will look to take on a leading role in 2024.

The Future

The good news for Rosemount is they have had a lot of success at the youth level over the past few years and have a strong group of kids coming up. Payton Sickel started last year as a freshman gaining valuable experience. Jack Lenmark is a sophomore that I would expect to take on a larger role. They will have to figure out the goalie situation as both varsity goalies graduated so I assume it will be freshman, Jack Noonan, who anchored the state champion 14U A team this past summer.

2024 Schedule

Rosemount always schedules well. They have their SSC conference games but play a lot of good teams out of conference as well. Last year, the Irish played Jefferson, Hastings, Edina, Wayzata, Holy Angels, and Irondale out of conference, but…. a quick glance at the SSC schedule for 2024, it looks like they have dropped a lot of these games. This may not be completely correct/set but it looks like they are playing Hastings, Owatonna, Duluth and Orono with 2 more games TBD. I am curious to see how this plays out. Rosemount has almost always played Edina and Jefferson in the regular season, so, maybe they are waiting to get dates set on that.

In Conclusion

Rosemount looks like they will be in a transition year with so many of that strong 2023 class graduating. I don’t know if I can call it a rebuild given the strength/success of their program over the years and the strong youth program players coming up, but, it might be a year they lean more younger players than usual to gain experience for a run later on. As we have alluded to ad nauseam, the SSC and Section 6 is an absolute meat grinder combination for the schools who are set up that way.
