DTA Power Rankings: BOYS 5.17

I should just throw all the teams in a hat and draw 25 names at this point for the power rankings. But, i’ll try to provide the most clueless ranking possible. I don’t think it makes sense to even do a top 25 at this point because everyone is beating everyone….but, here’s my shot at it

  1. BSM - obvious. undefeated. hitting their stride. Blowing teams out the last few weeks. Who has the depth to run with them for 48 minutes?

  2. Edina - Moving them up to 2 because they are the 8-1 team that played BSM the toughest

  3. Chanhassen - despite the rough day against BSM, they are still very much in the running for a state title

  4. Lakeville North - Tough day against Shakopee but overall been dominant

  5. The Valley - only losses to North and BSM. Beat Shakopee in OT. Not dominating games but getting the job done

  6. Shakopee - have had their hiccups, quality wins vs LVN, PL, Rosemount. “Respectable Losses” to Moorhead and Valley.

  7. Maple Grove - getting the job done. Not as tough of a schedule as some of these other teams but pass the eye test. Quality wins vs Centennial, Armstrong, EP. Loss to Chan.

  8. Stillwater - Only losses are to BSM and Edina. They have been taking care of business everywhere else but always seem to make things interesting. Their schedule is strong so that will help them come playoff time

  9. Woodbury - Losses to Stillwater and Eagan… been pretty dominant otherwise. Quality win against STA. Other than Stillwater, Eagan, STA - haven’t played the toughest schedule.

  10. STA - only 6-4 but losses are to the states top teams, probably the top team in section. Have looked dominant at times and played good teams pretty tough.

  11. Rosemount - expected loss to North (but got blown out) and weird loss to Eagan. Looked really good for the most part in other games - big matchup vs PL coming up. Not really sure where they stand

  12. Prior Lake - All losses are to top 5 teams, without playing a game for the first 3 weeks and those teams had 5-6 under their belt. Do they expect to win those games? Yes. Does a team like PL get extra excuses? No. But, they are still a very good team and we will see it down the stretch here

  13. Minnetonka - Been hot and cold this year, they are probably somewhere in the mix of 8-15, quality wins vs EP, STA and close losses to LVN, Edina, and Buffalo. Never know what team is going to show up.

  14. Moorhead - Huge win vs Shakopee keeps them in the top 15 but got beat pretty good by BSM. I think they could upset someone in state, but, depending on how things shake out, will they get the 8 seed again and play (most likely) BSM, again.

  15. Eagan - Their quality wins vs Woodbury, Armstrong and Rosemount keep them in the top 15… Losses are to solid teams and they are playing a tough schedule. Should be battle tested.

  16. Jefferson - best 4-6 team in the state and better team than their record shows. They have lost to: PL, BSM, Chan, Eastview, Rosemount, Shakopee. All teams in the top 10 basically. I hate glorifying close losses, but, when we get down here, that is the only way to separate teams - and who you play matters.

  17. Chisago Lakes - Taking care of business on a weak schedule. Look to be dominant, would love to see how the fair against better teams. We may have to wait til state for that to happen.

  18. Farmington - Quality win vs Eagan and close losses to PL and the Valley keep them here, but, they will need to find another quality win to move up father than this

  19. Eden Prairie - Probably the best 4-5 team in the state. They have had a tough schedule. No real quality wins, but similar to farmington playing their top opponents tough to 1 or 2 goal games.

  20. Armstrong - Beating bad teams handedly. Close losses in their two tough games vs Maple Grove and Eagan.

  21. Tri-Mac - like Chisago Lakes, dominating a weak schedule. Their only hiccup in a loss to Totino-Grace, still not thrilled about their schedule, but, they have taken care of business so they get the nod

  22. Centennial - Like Minnetonka, been hot and cold. Some elite talent there, but, also some holes. Close losses to everyone but Armstrong. Still a very good chance they win Section 7. It’s kind of looking like a showdown with CL once again.

  23. Cretin-Derham Hall - slow start to the season, but, have won 4 in a row. Quality losses to Chan, Stillwater and Woodbury. Couple good games up coming with STA and EP down the stretch. If they win those, they could move up quite a bit.

  24. WBL - Playing top teams pretty close but a very weird loss vs Duluth. This team is hot and cold, I don’t know what to think

  25. Buffalo - Quality win vs Minnetonka gets them in the top 25. But have struggled in their other games against good teams. They got Chan and PL to end the season - win one of those, and they move up
