Instant Reaction
Honest take here: Kinda glad to be out of the top 10 here. Time to dig into some teams that don’t get enough press. Plus we get our first chance to utilize our notes from our Northside Source (shout out to NS source for responding to DMs…take note ES Source).
Champlin Park lists 30 players on their roster on MN Lax Hub. Appears to be literally anyone that played any single game, and is so far the largest roster we have worked on.
The Future
CP’s roster construction is heavily skewed to the 2024 class (15/30), so it’s a little less clear what their younger classes look like…however…
They have major contributions from the Hagenbarts, from the 2026 class.
Reese 46/10/56 and Paige 5.19 GAA/47.8% bodes very well for the Rebels. They better keep improving because next year there is going to be A LOT of production, and positions, to fill.
From our NS Source:
Their sophomores are very strong (Hagenbart twins are phenomenal - Reese is a 6’ varsity basketball player at attack and #1 goal scorer for them as a freshman).
Stat Crusade
In our crusade on assist percentage…Champlin Park assisted 153/264 goals scored…57.9%.
For the record, the teams reviewed are 59.1%, 50.1%, 34.8%, 67.4%, 58.7%, 55.7%, 33.3%, 38.2%, 44.5%, 50.7%, and 57.9%.
But another stat really caught our eye…Annabelle Johnson had 134 GBs. That seem really high. Really high. So we went digging.
Annabelle led the league in GBs, but in 19 games. Cate Kangas from Hill Murray was second at 104 GBs, but only in 13 games. They’re followed up by a few in the 80s for GBs. Feels like things get skewed on the definition of a GB, or there is a huge difference in talent level some teams play…or both.
The difference between the top GB getter and the 30th GB getter is 86 GBs (134 vs 48). That’s wild.
Shout out to ERZ – you had 3/14 top GB getters. We’ll talk more about that when we get to ERZ next week.
2024 Schedule?
Has 11/13 games scheduled, as we type this up on 11/8/23…not too shabby. Notable NWSC opponents missing: Maple Grove and ERZ.
What’s even more notable is who is scheduled: Rosemount, Wayzata, Edina, Andover, Centennial, and Blake.
Of course, we throw ANOTHER bone out to the charter school of the century…would be a good match up for both programs to play each other. We’ll see if they have a spot open in March when Gentry starts doing their schedule work.
Interesting Nugget No One is Talking About
Was 3-3 in last 6 games. The sledding got a little tougher as the regular season turned to post season.
In Conclusion
CP is neck and neck with Moorhead for best social media presence in MN girls lacrosse.
The move to section 5 is a tough look for CP. It seems to align geographically, we guess, but tough scene. But you have to beat good teams to win state, so might as well beat them in early June.
Final thought from NS source on CP: They have Shindelbeck (UCCS) and Johnson (NMU) who play together year round with their last shot at getting to state. Getting moved to Section 5 was really tough. Not sure how they get past BSM…
Coming next week: Elk River/Zimmerman
