BSM 8 @ Blake 7

Not that we identify every 1 goal game…but we feel pretty good about noting this one in the games to note.

Wayzata 12 @ Orono 11

Ladies and Gentlemen…we have an UPSET!

Shout out to Lady Wayzata Trojans. Heaps of disrespect on Wayzata…lots of hype on Orono.

Not saying we saw this coming…but we did have Wayzata as the preseason 3 seed in Section 5. Now, to be fair…we do have to say, we had Orono winning Section 2.

And now…from one of our loyal field sources:

April 14, 2025 Wayzata v Orono girl’s lacrosse: A Tale of Two Halves and a Lot of Sophomores

There was a lot of excitement in the air as Wayzata traveled to Orono for their first game of the Trojan’s season.  The Spartans were bringing their 2025 campaign home after an impressive win at Hutchinson the prior week, and were highly ranked in both the coaches polls and, more importantly, in the DTA poll.  Both teams are also very young, with each having only 4 seniors, and a very large number of sophomores (10 for Orono – 45% of the Spartans, 6 for Wayzata – 40% of the Trojans).

Quarter by Quarter:

Q1: Wayzata started strong, winning the initial draw and quickly scoring twice.   Orono was not without their chances, but the Trojan goalie stepped up early to make two big saves on free position shots.  Orono eventually answered in the first with one goal from Dylan Collins. As the first quarter wound down, Wayzata continued the barrage with several shots, all being saved or going wide.  Wayzata also committed multiple turnovers and received a yellow card to end the first. 2-1 Wayzata at the end of Q1.

 Q2: The Trojans exploded offensively in the second with 6 goals, including 3 from senior captain Evie Marks.  The Spartans stayed in the hunt, with three goals from sophomores in the second – 1 from Riley Teele and 2 from Layla Nick, including one with only 19 seconds left in the half.  8-4 Wayzata at the half.

 Q3: The rain started to come down during the shortened half time and the field started to get slippery in the third.  Spartans led the quarter in scoring with two goals, with one apiece from Riley Teele and Layla Nick. Anna Denzin scored for the Trojans, one of her three goals on the night.  9-6 Trojans at the end of 3.

 Q4: The rain was really blowing in during the fourth (my parents called to complain that the livestream “looked blurry”), but that didn’t stop the Spartans.  Layla Nick scored 4 unassisted in the 4th to repeatedly tie the game (and secure her double hat trick), aided by an unfortunate Wazyata yellow card.  Anna Denzin’s goal was joined by two late game goals, one each from freshmen Ryan Hoefker and McLean Roeder, to keep the Trojans ahead of the Spartans.  12-11 final.

Players of the Game:

Orono Spartans:  Layla Nick (6 goals), Riley Steele (3 goals)

Wayzata Trojans: Anna Denzin (3 goals), Evie Marks (3 goals), Addy Vaughn (1 goal, 3 assists)

Blaine 8 @ Centennial 5

Gee. Was there anyone that was high on Blaine? How about THE #1 MN Lacrosse Podcast in World!

Where did the happy idiots rank Blaine in Section 7?

PMAC = 4

Ted = 3

Katie = 4

MPMS = 3

Did the source have anything to say about Blaine?

Blaine

2025 Cierra Ledeen (Blaine)

OK - we are having a crisis with Blaine, because we want to shout out 8 players from a 5-9 team, but we are limiting that.  Let’s start with top scorer.

2027 Allison Sculthrop (Blaine)

Praying that PMAC doesn’t do his research and tries reading this last name cold on the pod.  36 GBs and 41 DCs feels like the type of play you’d like to have from a FRESHMAN.

Blaine was 5-9 last year…OK, so what? ZERO seniors. Want experience and leadership? How about literally everyone is eligible to return? To that point, only 5/21 are 2025s, suggesting that we might be a click early on the bandwagon…WHICH IS GREAT! We can find our spot and wait for everyone to start trickling in.

Hudson 11 @ Simley 5

We aren’t a great set of WI Lax minds, but you have our interest, Hudson.

Armstrong/Cooper 9 @ Totino-Grace 15

Yo…shout out private schools.

Owatonna 6 @ Rochester Century 10

OK - we see you Century.
