Quarterly Check In & Section Review - Girls

Alright loyal reader (doubt we have more than one reader), here is the Section Review - enjoy!

But first - here are our projected State Seeds:

  1. Lakeville South (Section 1)

  2. Prior Lake (Section 6)

  3. Benilde-St. Margaret’s (Section 5)

  4. Stillwater (Section 4)

  5. Minnetonka (Section 2)

    Unranked (but 6) Cretin-Derham Hall (Section 3)

    Unranked (but 7) Elk River/Zimmerman (Section 8)

Unranked (but 8) Andover (Section 7)

We pray that our “friends” at MSHSL convert lax to fully seeded 1-8, like they’re doing sport by sport. Not this year…but soon…maybe.

We were “this” close to putting ERZ over CDH…but defaulted to our friends at laxnumbers for a tiebreaker…but it doesn’t matter, they’re all in state and we feel good about them both being unranked will be a blind draw for the top 3.

Section 1 = Lakeville South

Championship Game = #1 Lakeville South 14 over #2 Lakeville North 4

This section was the chalkiest of chalk. Top 4 in semis. Laxnumbers #1, DTA Nation #1, MN Coaches #1, World #1. Not a lot more to say on this one.

Section 2 = Minnetonka

Championship Game = #2 Minnetonka 16 over #1 Eden Prairie 13

Top 4 made the semis, giving us 3 real nice match ups this week.

We’d like to take a moment to quote renowned lacrosse journalist, Mrs. Pmac’s Source, and their Section 2 preview, “The Skippers have as solid a foundation as possible.  We think they’ll be pushed and we know we’ve been pumping Minnetonka’s tires for as long as we’ve done this bit (and they’ve done nothing but let us down), but this is THE year this group has been waiting for.  If we didn’t pick them now, what are we even doing?” And from our last check in, “Prediction: Tonka over EP.”

THANK YOU SKIPPERS! Sure, not a huge stretch and let’s be frank…life would have been grand in Minnetonka win or lose, but put one on the board for the Source! Have no fear - we missed a lot more coming down the stretch.

Seriously - nice work and congrats on your first state appearance.

Section 3 = Cretin-Derham Hall

Championship Game = #3 CDH 12 over #5 Woodbury 9

Madness.

Semis were 1, 2, 3, and 5. Not a big deal, slight upset with Woodbury over Simley. And then…

#5 Woodbury 8 over #1 Park 7…in OT (they have a Hooley)

#3 CDH 9 over #2 East Ridge 6

Well then.

So…because of the weather, the teams held their champ game on the back end of a back to back. Woodbury didn’t have quite enough firepower (even with their Hooley). Fun section. Fun results. We won’t waste your time with our predictions and quotes on this one…let’s just say…not great.

Reports coming in from sources that things might have got a little chippy…let’s keep things clean next week CDH.

Section 4 = Stillwater

Championship Game = #1 Stillwater 6 over #3 Gentry 5

We had a 5 over 4 in quarters

We had a 3 over 2 in semis

So…NSPN battled through a power outage and got the stream going (professional work as always). They battled weather (60 min weather delay). They went back and forth. From NSPN play by play guy:

  • Gentry started off up 2-0. Quick. Very quick.

  • Stillwater scored next 3 to end first up 3-2

  • Stillwater scored 3 unanswered in second to go into half up 6-2

  • Gentry got 1 to start the half making it 6-3

  • They went through a 60 minute weather delay

  • Gentry chipped away to make it 6-5 with 4 min left

Great game. Great match up.

Section 5 = Benilde-St. Margaret’s

Championship Game = #1 BSM 9 over #3 Champlin Park 5

A lot like Section 4. We had a 5 over 4. We had a 3 over 2. We had 1 over 3 in close champ game. We see you Charlize Vang and your 6 goals in the champ game.

Scarlet Knights are back to defend their crown.

Section 6 = Prior Lake

Championship Game = #1 PL 18 over #3 Edina 1

Ahhh…yeah.

Sure, PL was favored, but we didn’t have 18-1 on our bingo card.

Top 4 teams made the semis…had 3 over 2 in the other semifinal game (back and forth game between Edina and Rosemount).

But PL ended up beating their section opponents 56-5. So…feels like they might have bounced back after their South game.

Section 7 = Andover

Championship Game = #6 Andover 9 over #5 Centennial 6

If Section 3 was madness…Section 7 was madness times 1000.

We had:

  • 5 over 4 in quarters

  • 6 over 3 in quarters

  • 5 over 1 in semis (Chisago Lakes’ first loss)

  • 6 over 2 in semis

  • 6 over 5 in final

More fun. Andover and Centennial played in regular season. Centennial won 8-7 on May 6.

Shout out to Andover.

But even more…shout out to Ted! Ted had the courage to pick Andover every step of the way. He put it out there. He doesn’t hide his name and picks behind a lame nickname like we do. True courage. True grit. Truly a great lacrosse mind. He’s earned the name, Teddy the Greek.

Section 8 = Elk River/Zimmerman

Championship Game = #1 Elk River/Zimmerman 12 over #2 Buffalo 5

Pretty calm and cool section. We had a 5 over 4 in the quarters.

Shout out to A North Side Source (not THE North Side Source - they were occupied) for this champ game recap:

  • Buffalo scores first, 1-0 Buffalo

  • ERZ ties it up

  • Buffy scores despite a ramped up ERZ pressure, 2-1 Buffy end of first

  • ERZ scores quickly…2-2

  • Buffy scores next with 8:02 left in half…3-2 Buffy

  • ERZ then scores 3 straight to end the half, led by some theatrics (the good kind) by Wozney and Osterman…5-3 ERZ @ half

  • ERZ pulls away in third and outscore Buffy 6-0…11-3 ERZ after third and wins 12-5
