Section Review: June 7

Section Finals baby!!!!!!!! Let get into it!

Section 4: #3 Gentry 7 @ #1 Stillwater 10

• Hey - we, collectively, give Gentry a lot of shit for being…well…Gentry. Their schedule, their “mileage”, their stats, the type of school they are or aren’t…whatever. Every story needs a villain and, in this entire bit of ours, they have been that villain. Is that fair to them? Probably not. Does anyone in the DTA nation hate Gentry? Probably not. So - thank you for allowing us to create the persona that Gentry the Evil Empire and any other school is the Rebel Alliance. Regardless of all that BS, you were one of the last 3 undefeated teams in the state. Great season. Well played.

• Stillwater has three losses, but none of them are anything to be really embarrassed about. They went through a rougher patch mid season, but seem to really have made things right. They’ve totally earned their right to play at state and are lucky enough that a good chunk of it is at their home stadium. This will be in the cards, until the MSHSL realizes they run a sport called lacrosse and actually give us a reasonable neutral field. This has been ranted on before. We’re not going to ruin our welcoming you to state with that.

Section 2: #2 Eden Prairie 15 @ #1 Chanhassen 16, Double OT

• Didn’t see this game, so we lived through MN Lax Hub’s play by play in the chat of their lead story (because their live scoring crashed). So get this:

  • Chan started the game up 7-0

  • Chan was up 13-7 with 14 min left

  • EP made the score 14-12 with 2:52 left…and eventually took a lead..

  • 14-13, 1:22 left

  • 14-14

  • 14-15 EP leading with :37 left

  • 15-15 with :14 left

• Thanks to the magic of a great free stream, we were able to see a lot of EP this season. Started off on the wrong foot, but definitely got on track and played, obviously, a great game

• Speaking of wrong feet, Chan had their much documented rough spell, and might not be over it…but they are winning and moving on and at this point in the season, that is literally the game. Win. Move on. They did. Welcome to state.

Section 5: #2 BSM 6 @ #1 Maple Grove 4

• Speaking of the magical power of free streams…guess which game was free on YouTube?

• Sure…it was HUDL cam, so can’t tell actual players, but did have a view of the scoreboard and could hear the crowd.

• Defensive battle. BSM was up 5-3 at half. The teams traded goals in the first 10 min or so and then ground it out to the final horn. No one is going to tell their grandkids about the offesnive output of this game…but guess what? Doesn’t matter.

• Maple Grove - great undefeated run. Our eyes are open next year. So are BSM’s.

• BSM - congradulations on making state again!
