Instant Reaction

EP graduated (8) 2023s last year…some with major production.  There are pieces in place, but feels like more gaps that need filling in.

The Future

Shout out to EP and their boosters for having the nicest looking game day program around (yeah – we have a program from last year, we do our research).

Also shout out to EP for not listing your JV team in your own program.

Stat Crusade

In our crusade on assist percentage…EP assisted 97/218 goals scored…44.5%.  Basically, in the middle

For the record, our top 9 teams were 59.1%, 50.1%, 34.8%, 67.4%, 58.7%, 55.7%, 33.3%, 38.2%, and 44.5%.

Another stat that caught our eye:  Brinley Hopper led the team with 106 shots on goal.  That seemed high, so that led to the start of a rabbit hole dig into SOG and % of team SOG.

Hopper accounted for 106 of EP’s 430 team SOG for 24.6%.  OK.

So…how does this % and total rank?  Doing a brief check:

Emily Moes, Lakeville South, led MSHSL with 112 SOGs.  Hopper was 2nd.  Moes was a 21.9% clip for South.

Sofia Watts, CDH, seems to have led MSHSL in terms of shot %, 103/291 = 35.4%.  We say SEEMS, because we didn’t run all the numbers for the entire population.

Interesting from that, Jordin Rosga, also of CDH, was 98/291, 33.7%.

CDH had two girls account for 201/291 of their team shots…69.1%.  Feels like CDH had a pretty clear game plan in 2023…might be something to diversify…and for others to maybe key on in 2024.

Where does this % rate (in order were started guessing)?  Hohn (Gentry) 24.5%, Moes (Lakeville South) 21.9%, Bjugan 23.8%, PL had 4 players (Sandell, Ward, Winter, and Sporney) 14.8% - 15.5%, Lakosky (Chaska) 26.8%, Watts (CDH) 35.4%, Schmitz (Mayo) 25.4%, Sikorski 30.7%, Rosga (CDH) 33.7%.

But this is an EP write up and not a deep dive into SOG…so enough.

We feel some mega spreadsheets coming in our life reviewing SOGs, % of team and shooting % of SOGs coming sometime later this off season.  Shout out Goltz.

2024 Schedule?

12 games scheduled…is that missing game being reserved for one of those traditional EP goes on the road to play someone from IL…in WI?

Opponents of note are Maple Grove, Andover, Chanhassen, Minnetonka, Edina, Prior Lake, Blake and Wayzata…in addition to plucky Orono (man, we’re in the process of cursing Orono – sorry about that).

Interesting Nugget No One is Talking About

Only 8 players younger than the 2024 class are on last year’s Varsity roster.  Lots of holes to fill.

In Conclusion

EP is never not going to be a factor, but there sure seems to be some opportunity in their conference and section against them.  Yes, they still have pieces, but the depth they need to have to compete seems to be the thing to watch out for.
