Top 5 Venues for the State Tournament

DTA Nation,

It’s the off season and a slow day at work, so I started thinking about what would be an interesting topic to blog about. To preface, this is a dream list and has no impact on where the state tournament will be held. Just want to throw that out there as some people think DTA has “pull” on these sorts of things. As of today, we do not. Looking at this list, you might think why isn’t XYZ stadium/field on the list…I tried to keep it somewhat reasonable and attainable.

5. Historic Todd Field- Hastings MN- Everyone is building new facilities, bigger screens, updated amenities. I’d love the tournament to be at one of the OG stadiums where you can smell the tradition, see where history was made, and feel the memories that the locals talk about at local watering holes. I have sources that say historic Todd Field is one of these types of places.

4. Winona State University- Since we are making Moorhead travel every year, why don’t we all go to a small gorgeous Minnesota town and embrace the week kind of like the Minnesota Hockey Tournament does. Winona has a sweet stadium, plenty of hole in the walls to eat at, and would create a totally different vibe for the tourney.

3. Duluth University- Staying on the theme of traveling, changing the vibe, and playing at a college stadium…what do we think about Duluth?

2. University of St Thomas- I know we have a Tommie on the pod, I coach with one, and we have plenty of them in #DTANation. I personally would probably root against this school as a fan, a little preppy for me personally. However, this location is central, the stadium is perfect and the field is great. This could be paired with another school in the area….Concordia St Paul??? I think this would be a huge win and would have my full support.

  1. TCO Stadium- This is probably the most talked about location for the state tournament. They have played high school football games here, as well as a variety of other sporting events. It’s an absolute gorgeous facility. It has plenty of space for fans, but not TOO MUCH space. I have done some digging, there would need to be a second complimentary field/location to TCO, which is totally fine. There would need to be “warm up fields” near, which I honestly don’t know how close or far it is from the main field or if they have any at all. However, if the PLL can figure out how to have multiple games and put on a show here I am sure we can figure out how to put on an awesome High School State Tournament here as well.

Where would you choose to have it?? Would love to hear your favorite spot!
